DIRECTOR, CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION AND MITIGATION 

Position Location: ATLANTA, GEORGIA

 

Description

 

The Director, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation will spearhead CARE USA's efforts to respond to the global challenge that climate change poses to the lives and livelihoods of poor communities in the developing world. S/he will work closely with other colleagues in CARE International (CI) to develop and implement a coordinated global program and advocacy strategy to address the challenges of climate change in a “pro-poor" manner. The Director, Climate Change will work with the CI Climate Team to set technical standards for CARE's engagement in climate change adaptation and mitigation programming, and s/he will play a role in reviewing and vetting all initiatives that involve CARE's participation in the emerging carbon markets. The Director, Climate Change will be responsible for developing relevant technical partnerships in the climate arena in the U.S. and will be a primary spokesperson for CARE on these issues vis-à-vis policy makers and the media. The Director will also be responsible for contributing to the growth of CARE's funding portfolio for climate-related work by developing relationships with U.S.-based private and institutional donors, in collaboration with CARE colleagues involved in Resource Development.

 

 

The position will report to the Senior Director, Sustainable Food Security and be part of a program cluster encompassing agriculture, food security, climate change, and livelihoods. As part of this cluster, the Director, Climate Change will work with other Program colleagues to ensure that climate change considerations are taken into account in strategy development and program design, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that CARE's work is “climate-smart." It is expected that this position will be based in Atlanta, Georgia USA, with domestic and international travel of at least 30%.
