Climate Change Communications and Press Officer Print E-mail

CARE Danmark (CDK) is seeking a Communications and Press Officer for the CARE International Poverty, Environmental and Climate Change Network (PECCN). The position plays a critical role in developing and strengthening CARE’s global climate change work. PECCN is the first Centre of Expertise within CARE International (CI). PECCN’s global membership includes hundreds of professionals from CARE and partner organisations committed to addressing the challenges of environmental change from the perspective of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people.
 
The Climate Change Communications and Press Officer is a key senior staff member in the PECCN Secretariat. In this role, she/he will play an active role in speaking for CARE international; working strategically with CARE and partners in climate programmes to identify and share key findings, elevating CARE messages through a variety of mediums, engaging with the press and media, and leading CARE’s communication efforts on climate change.
 
Responsibilities and tasks
   • To develop and execute an ambitious communications strategy for PECCN.
   • To raise the profile of CARE's climate change work amongst priority audience groups by articulating the work in international print media, broadcast and digital media.
   • To draft text for press, media releases, PECCN newsletter; overseeing production of CARE's communications materials at key climate change conferences.
   • To manage and produce context for CARE's climate change website.
 
Profile
   • Minimum qualification of a Bachelor's degree (preferable Master's degree) in journalism, communications or other relevant field.
   • Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience in development and climate change.
   • Experience from a developing country, or working with people in developing countries.
   • Excellent written, spoken and communication English skills.
   • Experience of media relations work in an international context.
   • Experience of managing a website and online communications.
 
We offer
A two year contract with potential for extension and the possibility to work from your home base in UK, Denmark or EU with travel to CARE International members and country offices around the world. The starting date is 15 August 2012.
